Class 10 Maths Board Exam: Chapter-wise Preparation Tips

Class 10 Maths board exam preparation tips

Maths is the subject where Class 10 students gain or lose the most marks. The good news is that the board paper follows the NCERT textbook closely, and every chapter can be mastered with the right kind of practice. Here is how to approach each part of the syllabus.

Algebra: Real Numbers, Polynomials, Linear Equations, Quadratic Equations, AP

  • These chapters reward step-by-step working. Write every step; marks are given for method.
  • For linear equations and quadratics, practise word problems until forming the equation feels easy. That is where most students get stuck.
  • In Arithmetic Progressions, learn the formulas for the nth term and the sum with their meaning, not just by heart.

Geometry: Triangles, Circles, Coordinate Geometry

  • Learn the statements of important theorems exactly, and practise writing proofs with a neat figure.
  • Draw figures with a pencil and scale, and label them. A good figure often shows the answer.
  • In Coordinate Geometry, the distance and section formulas come up again and again. Practise until there are no sign mistakes.

Trigonometry and its applications

  • Make a one-page sheet of standard values and identities and revise it daily for two weeks.
  • For heights and distances, always draw the diagram first and mark the angle clearly.

Mensuration, Statistics and Probability

  • Areas Related to Circles and Surface Areas and Volumes are scoring if formulas are clear. Keep units in every step.
  • Statistics questions are long but predictable. Use a neat table and check totals.
  • Probability needs careful listing of outcomes. Write the sample space before answering.

Avoiding silly mistakes

  • Keep a mistake notebook from every test and read it before the next one.
  • Leave the last 10 to 15 minutes of every practice paper for checking.
  • Solve previous years' questions chapter by chapter, then full papers in three hours.
